Q & A
What is the purpose of Box software?
There is a core Box service, followed by add-ons for various industries and situations. Box is a service for managing, sharing, and collaborating on digital files. As of 2017, there were approximately 41 million users, accounting for 6.5 percent of the market for software that aids in the management, sharing, and collaboration of digital files.
Is Box a Microsoft subsidiary?
We introduced a new Office 365 Cloud Storage Partner Program earlier this year in order to make it easier for other cloud services to integrate Office Online into their applications. Box is a part of the program and already integrates with the Office for iPad, iPhone, and Outlook for iPhone and iPad apps.
What makes OneDrive and Box different?
Box, in addition to storing any type of file, allows you to share content with colleagues and outside of the company, such as clients or other partners, regardless of the device they use. Microsoft OneDrive allows you to store and share files on any device and from any location.
What's the distinction between Box and Google Drive?
Group File Ownership: Unlike Google Drive, Box allows users to have group file ownership, whereas Google Drive only allows file ownership by the creator of the file. Box gives the owner of the folder ownership of the files, which can be individual or group ownership.
Reviews
4.75/5 (overall) - tim T.
Pros:
- Box has great storage capacity and many useful tools for editing and syncing items. It’s a very flexible, scalable tool
- I loved that Box allows frequently-emailed coworkers from your outlook to easily view your recent box files, documents, and updates and download things of interest if they have permission. It makes collaboration via e-mail, even over large files, effortless.
Cons:
- We rely on Box so much that on the few occasions that it has gone down temporarily, we have been stuck until it’s come back online. The good news is that this has happened only once or twice in 3+ years.
- Some of the features like drag-and-drop are buggy or tedious when linking multiple files, and the “upload folder” option is sometimes not able to be selected.
4.75/5 (overall) - Phoebe T
Pros:
- I have many cloud storage accounts but Box is where i keep my most important files that i don’t ever want to lose. Box has amazing security that keeps your important files safe.
- Box is a great way to securely store and share files in the cloud. I love that storage is unlimited for non-profits and that files can be shared with people outside your organization as well.
Cons:
- Sadly it does not work on my kindle Ir the android tablet I had. With everything going mobile these days, you would think they’d be compatible by now.
- We’ve lost some work this way. As a small company, this is manageable with clearer communication between employees, but I foresee this being an issue as we grow.
4.25/5 (overall) - Todd J
Pros:
- Box has saved me from ordering textbooks on my own because of the easy file-sharing ability. It has also been a lifesaver for securely saving my files because I know they are backed up.
- I like the box notes, It is an amazing idea to use it for sharing thoughts which are perfect to use it nowadays when many people work from home across the globe.
Cons:
- We never had a security breach or lost a file, and since we offer content marketing services, the number of files we upload and download monthly is too many.
- For personal plans, Box charges $10 for 100GB storage, which is almost 5 times what Google charges for the same storage space.
