SpringCM is one of the go-to platforms for contract management, founded in 2005. SpringCM primarily generates, automates, manages, and stores your documents and contracts, allowing its users to streamline business processes faster. Co-founders Greg Buchholz and Jeff Piper originally designed SpringCM as a software as a service marketplace product that specializes in document sharing and compliance utility for ChemCentral. The company then expands its scope, and in 2007, the company introduced SpringCM for Salesforce.com through Salesforce’s AppExchange. As one of the leading document and contract management platforms, SpringCM holds at around 600 enterprise customers, which includes CASE Construction, USDA, NBCUniversal, Spotify, The Pedowitz Group, Menlo Technologies Inc., and Ten-X LLC. On September 4, 2018, however, the SpringCM solution was acquired by DocuSign for $220 million, making DocuSign as the parent organization for SpringCM. Today, with its current CEO, Dan Dal Degan, SpringCM earns annual revenue of $25 million, with around 200+ employees spanning across Chicago, San Francisco, London, and Bucharest.

“ Streamline contract workflow ”

  • Allows for folders to help organize files. Can customize permissions.
  • Plus, we never had a good system for tracking contracts that were in effect or ones that were terminated/expired. We do now thanks to SpringCM.
  • I started working for a company that had already purchased the SpringCM license, but no one in the organization was familiar with it or really used it.
  • The reporting capabilities are a little difficult to design. The upfront structure and onboarding took longer than expected to implement.

“ SpringCM is a very convenient software ”

  • Our finance/contract team love it. They are able to better track contracts throughout that process.
  • Although I have confidence this is a clean and efficient platform, I experienced a few false starts that could have adversely impacted contracts that were time-sensitive for our receiving parties.
  • We were previously missing key dates (expiration, renewal, termination, etc.) for contracts.
  • A few hiccups each month still equal time lost.

“ Finally a better way for version control ”

  • Our team works hard, but putting the onus of managing the workflow solely on their inboxes made for frequent issues with version control and slow turnaround times.
  • With SpringCM, we were always working on the latest version, could see everyone’s input clearly, and had a clear idea of what was in the queue
  • We had to get an additional project from IT to allow for pop-ups. Without this, you won’t receive alerts when there is a newer version that you should be working from.
  • Implementation did take longer than I anticipated but I’m not sure how much of a con that is. There was a huge learning curve for me on the admin side. Once I filled in the gaps with additional training I felt much more comfortable.
